President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad introduced Ali Nikzad to the Iranian Majlis (Parliament) on Sunday as the candidate to run the newly-established Ministry of Infrastructure, the English language satellite Press TV reported.

The Ministry of Infrastructure was established following the merger of Ministries of Housing and Urban Development and Roads and Transportation, said the report.

Earlier this month, the cabinet ministers announced Ahmadinejad government's downsizing plan to merge ministries of Roads and Transportation with Housing and Urban Development, Energy with Oil, Industries and Mines with Commerce, and Welfare and Social Security with Labor and Social Affairs.

According to Iran's Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2010-2015) , the Iranian government is obliged to reduce its ministries form 21 to 17 to improve the efficiency of state administration.

Nikzad had served as the Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

According to the regular procedure, the candidates have to receive vote of confidence from the Majlis, but the report did not elaborate on the new move by the government and the parliaments' response in this regard.
