Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) chief Abdullatif al-Zayani arrived in Sanaa on Saturday in his third official visit to attempt to get a GCC-brokered deal signed after Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh announced acceptance, official Saba news agency reported.

According to Saba, the GCC secretariat said in a statement issued Saturday in the Saudi capital of Riyadh that the visit of the GCC secretary-general al-Zayani followed an official invitation by the Yemeni government to complete the procedures of signing the deal to settle the political crisis in Yemen.

Al-Zayani was received by Yemen's Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al- Qirbi, assistant Secretary-General of the ruling party Sultan al- Barakani and ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Kuwait to Yemen.

Under the deal, which was pressed by Western countries and GCC leaders, Saleh would leave office within 30 days after signing the deal in exchange for immunity from prosecution, and a new government, to be formed by the opposition within seven days, should arrange the presidential and parliamentary elections in 60 days.

The deal has been derailed twice since April over disputes between Saleh and the opposition.
