The Palestinian leadership on Thursday said it supports U.S. President Barack Obama's efforts to make peace in the Middle East, an official said.
The leadership also said it will be committed to any obligation that result from agreements and agrees with the international references.
The position was made after Obama delivered a speech in which he urged Israel and the Palestinians to resume peace talks that has been stalled over a dispute on the settlement activities since last year.
Saeb Erekat, an official of Palestine Liberation Organization, told a news conference in the West Bank that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas ordered an urgent meeting for the leadership to discuss Obama's invitation.
Erekat said that he hopes the Israeli government will does the same and "gives a real chance to the peace process."
Obama agreed with the Palestinians that the negotiations should be based on having the Palestinian state within the lands captured by Israel in 1967, with limited swap of lands.
The Palestinians decided to go to the United Nations to seek recognition of their state in September, after Israel resumed the settlement construction in the West Bank last year. However, Obama said efforts to isolate Israel internationally and though the UN will fail.
