The Iraqi government spokesman said Monday that the death of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden is a " moral blow" to the al-Qaida network in Iraq.

"The Iraqi government is relieved for the killing of Osama bin Laden who was behind the killing of many Iraqis, and his death is a major moral blow to al-Qaida organization in Iraq," Ali al- Dabbagh told reporters here.

Many of the al-Qaida network in Iraq suffered painful blows and many of its leaders have been killed in Iraq during the past years, Dabbagh said.

He also said that bin Laden's death will have no significant impact on the security situation in Iraq, as the country has already been in fierce fighting against al-Qaida for years.

However, earlier in the day, Qassim Atta, spokesman of Baghdad Operations Command, said Iraqi security forces had increased security alert in Baghdad as they expect deadly attacks to be carried out by al-Qaida militants in retaliation for bin Laden's killing.

"Iraqi security forces took precautionary measures in Baghdad for fear of terrorist attacks by al-Qaida militants after the death of bin Laden," he told reporters in Baghdad.
