Thousands of Syrians rally in Daraa

Thousands of Syrians on Friday rallied in the southern town of Daraa for the fifth week, pan-Arab al-Jazeera TV reported.

The protesters who took to the streets of Daraa, chanting anti- government slogans one day after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad' s announcement of lifting the country's state of emergency which had been in place since 1963, according to Al-Jazeera.

Al-Jazeera cited the Syrian dissent Haytham al-Maleh as saying anti-government protests have erupted in a number of Syrian cities. Syrian dissents have named Friday's protests as "the Great Friday. "
