14 suspects over shooting on protesters referred to Yemen's public prosecution

Yemeni security authorities on Saturday referred to the public prosecution 14 suspects accused of involving in the March 18 shootings that killed 52 anti-government protesters near Sanaa University in the capital, the official Saba news agency reported on Sunday.

The agency cited a security official as saying that the security authorities had earlier referred another batch of 30 wanted people over attacking protesters on March 18, the shootings also left more than 600 protesters injured of gunshots.

On March 21, the public prosecutor issued a forcible arrest warrant against 10 suspects accused of involving in the March 18 shootings.

The impoverished Arab state witnessed prolonged political crisis ignited by opposition-backed street protests that demanded the end of the 33-year rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh since mid February, undermining security and stability of the country.
