Gulf foreign ministers met Sunday in the Saudi capital Riyadh to discuss ways to defuse the political crisis gripping Yemen for three months.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) meeting, the third in two weeks, would "discuss the latest developments in Yemen," the official Saudi news agency SPA reported late Saturday.

It said Sunday's meeting will be chaired by the foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al- Nahayan.

At their latest meeting on April 10, the GCC foreign ministers floated a proposal calling for Yemeni Ali Abdullah Saleh to hand over power to his vice president and form a government unity headed by the opposition. The initiative was rejected by the opposition because it featured immunity for Saleh.

Doha-based Al-Jazerra said a delegation of Yemen's parliamentary opposition will head for Riyadh for "consultations" over the Gulf proposal.
