Bahrain detainee found dead in custody

Bahrain's Interior Ministry on Saturday said that a detainee arrested for promoting sectarianism was found dead at a detention center.
The Assistant Undersecretary of Legal Affairs at the Ministry said in a statement that Zakariya Rashid Hassan, 40, was arrested on April 2 with charges of incitement of hatred and publishing false news, promoting sectarianism and calling for overthrowing of the regime thorough e-forums.
He added that the medical examiner affirmed that the death was related to complications of sickle cell anemia.
Separately, the ministry on Saturday said an anti-government protestor died in custody due to injuries during clashes with security forces.
Ali Isa Saqer, 31, created chaos at the detention center that led to the interference of security forces to bring situation to normal, the ministry said in a statement.
"He was sent to the hospital and died later," said the General Director of Police of Muharraq Governorate.
The official explained that Saqer was arrested with charges of attempt murder of policemen while trying to run over the police by his car and hitting one of the protesters on March 13.
About 24 people died since the unrest in the country started in mid-February.
