The Israeli forces Tuesday shot dead one Palestinian in northern the Gaza Strip, near the security fence separating Israel and the coastal enclave, witnesses and medical sources said.

Israel allowed Palestinian ambulances to enter the area to evacuate the Palestinian one hour after he was killed.

The Palestinian, killed by an Israeli projectile, was in his 20s, said Adham Abu Selmiya with the emergency medical services.

Israel imposed a 300-meter-wide buffer zone along its borders with the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip after its three-week military offensive here ends in January 2009. Civilians collecting scrap or gravel in that area are often shot.

Meanwhile, In the West Bank the Israeli army arrested 10 Palestinians in a village near Nablus city, witnesses said.

Israel said the detainees were wanted by its intelligence and security services.
