At least one soldier was killed and five others wounded on Sunday when anti-government separatist militants raided military checkpoints in Yemen's southern province of Lahj, an official of the Interior Ministry said.

The official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that the gunmen of the separatist Southern Movement raided several military checkpoints in Milah district of Lahj.

The soldiers fired back and foiled that attack, leaving one soldier dead and about five other soldiers wounded.
