Israeli army arrests 14 Palestinians in West Bank

The Israeli army arrested 14 Palestinians in the West Bank on early Monday as clashes between Palestinians and Jewish settlers continued, witnesses and security sources said.

Twelve Palestinians were detained in villages near Nablus city, where Itamar settlement, the scene of the deadly attack, is situated, the witnesses said.

The Israeli soldiers questioned the detainees in the villages and beat some of them, in the meanwhile, Israel has announced the villages surrounding Nablus as "closed military zones," the witnesses added.

Another two Palestinians were detained in Hebron city.

Meanwhile, the settlers launched random attacks in various Palestinian cities and villages in the West Bank, the security sources said.

The angry settlers burned four Palestinian cars near Ramallah and Qalqilya cities, and blocked roads leading to the main cities.

Tension has been high between Israel and the Palestinians since the murder of five members of a settler family in a West Bank settlement on Saturday.
