The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has deployed more troops in the West Bank, according to local media, since Saturday's attack on an Israeli family living in a Jewish settlement which left five dead.

Israeli army sources told Xinhua Monday that "they were prepared for any eventuality," when asked about troop buildups, but the sources had no other comment regarding reports of the deployments.

Some two battalions worth of soldiers, and border police units have been sent to the West Bank, according to the Ha'aretz newspaper.

The army is carrying out house-to-house searches in the village of Awarta, where they believe the suspected killers originated, The Jerusalem Post reported Monday.

"The iron fist of the IDF and the Shin Bet will quickly land on the murderers," Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said, according to the newspaper.

"They will be caught and brought to justice and made to pay for their actions," Barak was quoted as saying.

Israeli military and civilian officials are concerned about the prospect of further attacks on Israeli settlers, as well as outbreaks of violent "price tag" clashes between settlers and Palestinians. There have been incidents of Jewish residents of West Bank settlements and their supporters attacking Arab villagers and property, that rightists are calling "the price tag" for concessions to the Palestinians.
