Israeli warplanes struck by missiles on Saturday night several targets in the Gaza Strip in response to earlier homemade rockets attacks launched from the enclave at southern Israel, witnesses said.

They said that Israeli F16 warplanes had intensively flew over the blockaded enclave and began to strike on targets all over the Gaza Strip, adding that huge explosions were clearly heard and ambulances were seen rushing in the streets.

Residents in Zeitoon neighborhood told Xinhua that a huge explosion was heard in the area, adding that the explosion was a result of an Israeli missile that hit a training camp belongs to Islamic Hamas movement's armed wing.

Security sources said that four more successive airstrikes were carried out on northern and central Gaza Strip, adding that underground tunnels and training camps for Gaza militants were struck, no injuries reported.

Adham Abu Selmeya, Gaza emergency chief in the Hamas-run ministry of health told Xinhua that no injuries were reported following the five successive airstrikes on separate targets in the Gaza Strip.

The successive Israeli warplanes airstrikes came hours after an Israeli spokesman announced that Gaza militants had fired overnight and on Saturday afternoon three homemade rockets from the Gaza Strip at southern Israel.

Last week, Hamas movement, which rules the enclave held intensive contacts with Gaza militant groups and factions trying to renew an undeclared ceasefire and refrain from launching homemade rockets from Gaza at Israel.

Hamas is trying to restore calm to avoid another Israeli large-scale military operation on Gaza similar to the early 2009 operation Cast Lead, where more than 1,400 Palestinians and 11 Israelis were killed.
