Jordan FM stresses Palestinian statehood non-negotiable right for Palestinians

Jordanian foreign minister said on Sunday the Palestinian statehood is a non-negotiable right for the Palestinian people.

In a joint press conference with Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt, Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh stressed that the creation of an independent Palestinian state on the Palestinian soil with East Jerusalem as its capital is a non-negotiable right.

The Jordanian foreign minister said that developments in the Middle East must not divert attention away from the Palestinian issue, which is a central issue in the region.

The Swedish official stressed his country's support for efforts to revive direct peace talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis to find a fair settlement to the Palestinian issue that will lead to the realization of the two-state solution.

Bildt underlined the need for resuming peace talks, which are necessary at this stage.

During a meeting prior to the press conference, the two sides looked into regional developments and efforts to revitalize the peace process.

Also on Sunday, King Abdullah II of Jordan received the Swedish official and discussed with him developments in the region and efforts to attain Middle East peace, who also stressed on the important role the EU plays in realizing Middle East peace, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
