Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh directed the state-owned Yemen Airways on Thursday to evacuate any Yemeni citizens who want to leave Libya, the official Saba news agency reported.

"Upon directives of President Saleh, the Yemen Airways Company has taken a series of measures that ensure the safety of transporting a large number of citizens who want to return home," Saba quoted the company's chairman Abdulkhalek al-Kadi as saying.

The company is to start the evacuation on Friday.

Yemen's evacuation came nearly a week after massive unrest hit the north African nation.
