Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and his Ecuadorian counterpart called here for strengthening of relations between the two countries, the local satellite Press TV reported Monday.

Iran and Ecuador have a great opportunity to bolster trade ties, Larijani said Sunday in a meeting with the visiting Ecuadorian National Assembly President Fernando Cordero, urging Tehran and Quito to bolster ties in all spheres, especially in trade, energy, and agriculture.

For his part, Cordero said the aim of his trip to Iran was to boost bilateral relations.

Ecuador and Iran agreed to work since 2008 on several joint projects in Ecuador. Both countries have agreed to build three hydroelectric centers in Ecuador, as well as to work on projects in agriculture and auto industry in the Latin American state.
