Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said the country is hopeful about Iran-Germany relations in the future, the semi-official ISNA news agency reported on Sunday.

"Iran and Germany can play an influential and constructive role in the region and cooperate on regional and international developments," Salehi said in a press conference with his visiting German counterpart Guido Westerwelle in Tehran on Saturday.

Iran and Germany can work on fighting drugs and terrorism, he said.

For his part, German foreign minister said, "We are keen on upcoming talks between Iran and Germany."

Westerwelle also called for fight against international terrorism and drugs smuggling to be included in the meetings that have been planned for boosting bilateral ties.

German foreign minister arrived in Iran on Saturday as it was announced that Tehran would release two German nationals who were detained in October for illegal journalistic activities in Iran.
