Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi has canceled his trip to Ethiopia for African Union (AU) summit, the local ISNA news agency reported on Monday.

Salehi's visit to Ethiopia was canceled on Sunday due to his busy agenda, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told the official IRNA news agency on Monday.

An Iranian delegation headed by Foreign Ministry's Deputy for Legal and International Affairs Mohammad-Mehdi Akhoundzadeh left Tehran for Ethiopia instead, the spokesman said.

The summit opened on Sunday in Addis Ababa and Iran attended the summit as an observer state, said ISNA.

The summit, with the theme "Towards Greater Unity and Integration Through Shared Values," gathers heads of states and governments from AU members to discuss issues including Africa's integration as well as peace and security, among others.

The political crisis in Cote d'Ivoire, the unrest in Tunis and Egypt, the post-referendum development in Sudan as well as the situation in Somalia are expected to top the agenda of the discussions.
