Iraqi government employee killed, 6 people injured in Baghdad violence

An Iraqi government employee was killed and six people wounded in separate gunfire and bomb attacks in Baghdad on Monday, an Interior Ministry source said.

Gunmen using weapons fitted with silencers shot dead Malik Abdul-Hussien, an engineer in the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, while he was driving his private car on a highway in Baghdad western district of al-Adil, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Separately, five people were wounded in two roadside bomb attacks in eastern and northern the capital in the morning, the source said.

Also in the day, a civilian was critically wounded when a sticky bomb attached to his car detonated while he was driving on a highway in eastern Baghdad, the source added.

The latest attacks are part of wave of assassinations by insurgent groups against Iraqi security members and government workers. The groups tactics are also include roadside bombings and sticky bombs attached to vehicles.

Violence and sporadic high-profile bomb attacks continue in the Iraqi cities despite the dramatic decrease of violence over the last three years.
