In an incident south of Hebron Sunday morning, Israeli soldiers shot at a vehicle they said rammed through a temporary checkpoint.

"Early this morning a Palestinian vehicle burst through a security crossing near the village of Dahariya," the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesman's Office told Xinhua.

"The driver did not respond to calls to stop, and soldiers were forced to open fire, according to the army's Rules of Engagement," according to the IDF.

The vehicle, however, did not stop and headed on towards Hebron, according to the army.

The Spokesman's Office could not confirm if people in the vehicle had been wounded, or if soldiers fired a warning shot before opening live fire, and said the incident was being investigated.

Palestinian media sources reported later in the morning that two Palestinians in their 20's were treated for gunshot wounds, which they said they sustained in the army's shooting, according to the local Ha'aretz daily newspaper.

The incident follows a series of similar clashes between soldiers and Palestinians at West Bank checkpoints in recent weeks.

Israeli army troops shot and killed an Islamic Jihad militant Thursday morning near the northern West Bank city of Jenin, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman's office told Xinhua.

The army said the man approached and then opened fire on a guard post close to a nearby settlement, Mevo Dotan. The troops immediately returned fire, killing him, the IDF said, adding there were no injuries reported to troops.

The Palestinian, Salem Mohammad Sami Samoudi, was a "recognized Islamic Jihad operative," the army said, and had "been arrested by the IDF twice in the past for his involvement in terrorist activities."
