Syria has taken into consideration the failure of Syrian-Saudi proposal over Lebanon's political crisis, official sources were quoted by local Now news website as saying on Thursday.

The sources said Damascus is informed of the efforts exerted by Lebanese, regional and international parties to obstruct the Syrian-Saudi initiative which aims at reaching an agreement to curb political tensions in Lebanon, according to the report.

The initiative has reached a dead end, said the report.

Tensions among the Lebanese parties increased after leaks alleged that the UN-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) is expected to issue an indictment against members of the Lebanese Hezbollah group over the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in Beirut in 2005.

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri's Cabinet on Wednesday collapsed after the withdrawal of 11 ministers loyal to Hezbollah and its allies.

Hezbollah has denounced STL as an "Israeli project," urging Hariri to reject the tribunal's findings. However, Hariri has refused to end the cooperation with the STL.
