Iran, Syria vow to boost ties

Iran and Syria vowed to boost cooperation in diverse areas, the local satellite Press TV reported on Sunday.

The strategic relationship between Tehran and Damascus should be strengthened, Iran's Foreign Ministry Caretaker Ali Akbar Salehi said when meeting with Syrian Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al- Abrash on Saturday, the report said.

For his part, al-Abrash said Syria wants to cooperate more closely with Iran in all areas and added that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad wants to strengthen bilateral ties with Tehran.

Al-Abrash, along with a Syrian parliamentary delegation, came to Iran under a formal invitation of his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani. The two parliament speakers met on Saturday and discussed regional and bilateral issues as well as the enhancement of the parliamentary relations, the report said.
