A Palestinian youth died shortly after Israeli troops shot him at a West Bank checkpoint, Palestinian medical sources said Saturday.

The 24-year-old Khaldoun Samoudi was traveling to his work when soldiers at Bekaot checkpoint in the Jordan Valley shot him.

A hospital official, speaking on condition of anonymity, accused the Israel army of contributing to Samoudi's death by preventing ambulance crews from evacuating the wounded to hospital quickly.

According to Israeli media, the Palestinian got out of a car and shouted, prompting the soldiers to fire as he walked towards them.

On January 2, the soldiers shot dead a Palestinian on the same checkpoint while he was traveling to his work. At the time, Israel said that the man, who was carrying a Coca-Cola bottle, was about to attack the soldiers.
