Israeli soldiers on Saturday shot and wounded a Palestinian at a checkpoint in the West Bank, witnesses and Israeli reports said.

Witnesses said that the soldiers opened fire at a young man approaching Bekaot checkpoint in Jordan Valley. The Palestinian was critically wounded, the sources said.

The soldiers prevented ambulances from getting close to the bleeding young man, whose identity was not clear.

According to Israeli media, the Palestinian got out of a car and shouted, causing the soldiers to fire as he walked towards them.

On Jan. 2, the soldiers shot dead a Palestinian on the same checkpoint when he was going to work. Israel claimed that the man carrying a Coca-Cola bottle, was about to attack the soldiers.
