An Iranian police commander said that the police forces have killed three drug traffickers in the southern province of Kerman, the semi-official Fars news agency reported on Sunday.

In a one-hour clash between the police forces and the drug traffickers in Qaleh Ganj heights in Kerman province, three drug traffickers were killed, Hossein Chenarian, the police commander of the province was quoted as saying.

Some 520 kilograms of opium and some machine guns were seized from them, said Chenarian on Saturday without further details.

Iran is located at the crossroads of international drug smuggling from Afghanistan, the world's top opium producer, to Europe.
