Visiting Iraqi Vice President Adil Abedel Mahdi said on Wednesday that negotiations among Iraqi parties over the formation of the Iraqi government continue.
He made the remarks at a press conference following the meeting with his Syrian counterpart Farouk al-Shara.
"We are looking for a national partnership government which will avoid repeating the experience of the previous four years," said the Iraqi official.
Since the March 7 parliamentary elections, Iraqi rival powers have been bickering about who should have the right to form the next government.
Earlier this morning, Abedel Mahdi discussed with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad the recent development in the Iraqi arena and the crisis of the Iraqi government formation.
Abedel Mahdi, who is a leading member in the Iraqi Superior Islamic Council, arrived in Damascus on Tuesday to hold talks with Syrian officials.
