Hundreds of Palestinians on Wednesday demonstrated in the Gaza Strip and West Bank against the resumption of direct peace talks with Israel scheduled for Thursday.

The two demonstrations were organized by leftist factions and groups representing independent figures in the society.

The people were protesting the Palestinian National Authority ( PNA)'s acceptance of the U.S. call to resume the negotiations on Thursday without an Israeli commitment to stop Jewish settlement in the occupied territories.

The demonstration came as President Mahmoud Abbas is set to meet U.S. President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington a day before the negotiations are launch there.

In Ramallah, the demonstrators gathered in the main square in the West Bank town together with leaders of the leftist factions that are part of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and independents.

"President of Palestine.. we are at difference with you," shouted the angry protestors, noting that the PNA responded to U.S. and Israeli pressure to accept going back to the talks. "The PNA leaders put us in plight," others cried out.
