Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said the U.S.-brokered plans for peace talks between the Palestinian Authority and Israel is a deception, the English language Press TV reported on Monday.

"The U.S. raises the issue of peace talks to create a mirage for the Palestinian people and deceive regional nations," Larijani was quoted as saying.

He made the remarks in a Sunday meeting in Tehran with Khalil Hamdan, an official of Lebanon's Amal movement, according to the report.

The U.S. seeks to promote peace talks to make a "fake prestige" among regional nations, Larijani said, adding that resistance is the only way leading to victory and restoration of rights of the Palestinians.

Talks between Israelis and Palestinians have been stalled since a breakdown more than a year ago, and many are skeptical over whether a solution can be found to a rivalry that has spanned several decades.

The negotiations between Palestinian Authority and Israel will restart in Washington on Sept. 2.
