The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) on Monday condemned an Israeli decision to demolish two newly-built mosques in the West Bank under the pretext of being built without a license.

Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud al-Habash told Voice of Palestine radio that the Israeli decision to demolish two mosques in villages of Burin near Nablus and al-Jalazoon near Ramallah is "provocative and illegal."

Israel doesn't have the right to intervene in construction of mosques, it's the Moslems' right, al-Habash said, adding the decision would have negative effects.

"Israel is carrying out unilateral provocative steps to obstruct the efforts to resume the peace process and reach a permanent peace agreement with the Palestinians," said al-Habash.

Israel and the Palestinians have earlier accepted the U.S. invitation to attend a meeting in Washington on Sept. 2 to resume the direct peace talks to reach a permanent peace treaty within a year.

The PNA is holding intensive contacts with the international community and presenting briefings on the Israeli provocative actions against the Palestinians in the West Bank, al-Habash added.
