Israeli tanks fired several shells at a house in southeast Gaza Strip after militants fired mortars from the enclave into Israel on Tuesday, witnesses said.

The violence came a day after Israeli forces and Palestinian militants exchanged fire in the east of Khan Younis city where a Palestinian gunman was killed and an Israeli soldier was lightly wounded.

This morning, three artillery shells hit the house, the witnesses said, adding that the same house was hit on Monday during the clashes. There has been no news on casualties in Tuesday's shelling.

Meanwhile, an Israeli force entered the area for the second time in 24 hours and clashes with Palestinian militants were sparked.

The armed wing of the Popular Resistance Committee (PRC), a small radical group that maintains good ties with the Hamas, said it fired five mortars at the invading forces and another five shells at an Israeli community to the east of the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army said two soldiers were injured due to the mortar fire.
