A senior Iranian official met on Sunday with leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad (Holy War) to discuss the regional affairs, the Syrian official news agency SANA reported.

Ali Akbar Velayati, foreign policy adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Seyed Ali Khamenei, held a meeting on Sunday with the Damascus-based Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal and Islamic Jihad (Holy War) leader Ramadan Shallah.

"We exchanged views over the regional affairs as well as the Israeli and U.S. threats," Mashaal said.

"Future is for resistance and steadfastness, as we are capable of facing all of the challenges," added Mashaal.

Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki expressed on Sunday his country's willingness to fully support Lebanon and Syria in the face of any possible Israeli aggression.

Velayati arrived in Syria on Saturday aiming at discussing with Syrian and Palestinian officials the latest regional developments, SANA said.
