Some 150 youth representatives from 25 countries have gathered in Egypt's world famous tourist resort Luxor since Thursday to launch a series of exchange activities celebrating the upcoming International Youth Day.
The young people, from countries including Austria, Japan, Italy and Tanzania, are participating in the nine-day gathering organized by the National Council for Youth of Egypt on the occasion of the International Youth Day which falls on August 12.
The event is aiming at enhancing dialogue and understanding among world youth, as well as providing chances for them to learn about Egyptian history and culture, according to organizers.
Mrs Suzanne Mubarak, wife of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, will join the rally of young people on August 12 to celebrate the day and make a speech.
On Dec. 17, 1999, the UN General Assembly endorsed the recommendation in its resolution 54/120 that August 12 be declared International Youth Day.
Luxor is the first leg of the group of young people from various parts of the world, who will visit ancient Egyptian relics in upper Egypt and the Aswan dam. They will also hold national day of each country and launch an open letter to the world representing international youth.
