Nine civilians were killed as their vehicle stuck a mine planted by militants in Helmand province south of Afghanistan, spokesman for provincial administration Daud Ahmadi said Thursday.
"The bloody incident happened in Khanshin district on Wednesday leaving nine dead on the spot," Ahmadi told Xinhua.
He also added that the ill-fated people were going to the district headquarters to obtain voting card when their vehicle ran over a mine and all lost their lives.
A woman is among those killed in the blast, he further said.
Since the area is far from the provincial capital and communication system is poor it is difficult to get information on time, the official further said.
