Egyptian Security authorities blocked off on Sunday ten openings of secret tunnels at borders with the Gaza Strip.
The ten openings were located in a residential area north of Rafah crossing, a security source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian police seized huge quantities of ready- for-smuggling to Gaza timber, steel and cement in Rafah during a crackdown on a warehouse in the border area.
The seized 35-truckloads of building material were confiscated and transported to a governmental warehouse. Nobody was arrested in connection with the seized quantities of building material.
Since Israel imposed a tight blockade on the Gaza Strip in 2007 and closed down all commercial crossings with the enclave, the Palestinians dug hundreds of smuggling tunnels under the Gaza- Egypt borders to use them in smuggling goods from Egypt into the besieged enclave.
