Hamas leader calls on Palestinian reconciliation parties not respond to U.S. pressures

The Damascus-based Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal called on Thursday the parties concerned in the Palestinian reconciliation not to respond to the U.S. pressures.
His call came during a meeting with the Arab League (AL) chief Amr Moussa who arrived in Damascus Wednesday to discuss regional affairs with Syrian and Palestinian officials.
"Hamas is keen to overcome all obstacles which stand in the face of the reconciliation," Mashaal said, stressing that his organization is interested in achieving this mission as soon as possible.
Moussa stressed that both Hamas and Fatah party should shoulder the responsibility of reconciliation abortion, referring to the practical acts needed to achieve this task.
Hamas and Fatah have been engaged in a sour power struggle since the Islamic movement swept its rival Fatah party in the legislative elections in 2006.
