Abbas' visit to Washington to decide proximity talks' fate

Senior Palestinian officials announced Tuesday Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas would ask U. S. President Barack Obama during their meeting in Washington Wednesday to pressure on Israel to make the Middle East proximity talks successful.
The officials said that during his meeting with Obama, Abbas will focus on previewing the situation in the Palestinian territories, the Israeli practice on the ground and what the proximity talks have achieved by far since it was launched on May 10, 2010.
Abbas' visit to the United States on Wednesday will be the second since Obama was elected as the president of the United States one year and a half ago. In addition to holding talks with Obama, Abbas will also meet at the White House with other senior U. S. officials and members of Congress.
