Israeli ships attacked one of the six ships of a relief flotilla carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza on Monday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.

Two people were killed and 30 others were injured in the attack, according to the report.

IHH, a Turkish humanitarian relief organization which carries out the aid campaign, said in a statement posted on its website that Israeli troops boarded the ship from a helicopter and opened fire.

The Turkish foreign ministry will summon Israeli Ambassador to Turkey Gaby Levi later in the day, said the report.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who is on his way from Brazil to the United States, informed Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the developments.

After Israeli ships attacked the aid convoy, a crowded group of protestors gathered in front of the Israeli Consulate General in Istanbul, protesting the attack by chanting slogans, added the rerport.

It said that tight security measures have been taken around the consulate building.

The flotilla, which includes three cargo ships and three passenger ships is carrying items such as electric-powered wheelchairs, prefabricated homes and water purifiers.
