In Mosul, the capital city of Nineveh province, gunmen stormed a house of a family from Iraq's tiny Shabak minority in eastern the city, killing a man and wounding his wife, a local police source told Xinhua.

In a separate incident, one gunman was killed and five security personnel were wounded in clashes between armed men and Iraqi security forces in the Mithaq neighborhood in eastern Mosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad, the source said.

Iraqi security forces sealed off the scene and captured two more militants, he added.

Nineveh province, including its capital Mosul, remains one of Iraq's most volatile areas despite major security crackdowns by U. S. troops and Iraqi security forces to uproot the insurgency which erupted shortly after the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
