Israeli forces on Tuesday used gunfire to disperse tens of Palestinian demonstrators at Gaza's northern border with Israel, witnesses said.

There has been no report on casualties during the dispersal of the rally, staged to protest Israel's allocation of a 300-meter- wide buffer zone along its borders with the Gaza Strip.

A newly-formed committee, the Popular Campaign Against Security Stripe, stages weekly rallies in the eastern and northern Gaza- Israel frontiers to draw attention to the ordeal of farmers who have groves at the no-go zone.

The Israeli troops on the electrical fence fired at the rally when some protestors advanced and succeeded to hang Palestinian flag on the barrier, according to the witnesses.

Hamas, which controls Gaza, maintains an undeclared ceasefire with Israel but the border area has always been tense, witnessing Palestinian and Israeli exchange of fire and incursions.
