Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Tuesday that Iran's military power is deterrent with defensive nature, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

"Our weapons are merely for deterring those powers that think they can wage an attack on Iran," Vahidi was quoted as saying.

"We have announced that our defensive doctrine is based on deterrence...That is exactly unlike the U.S. preemptive doctrine which is aggressive and offensive," he said in a conference in Tehran.

"Our doctrine conveys no message but peace with regional countries, and we have repeatedly announced that we consider none of the regional countries as a threat to us," said Vahidi.

He further added that Iran is ready to sign a collective security pact with the regional states, and that Tehran is also prepared to enter negotiations with the regional states over collective establishment of security in the region, according to Fars.

Over the past years, Iran has made considerable progress in producing home-made weapons especially the multiple-range missiles.

The United States and other Western powers are skeptical about Iran's weaponry program, especially those of missiles which could possibly use nuclear materials. However, Tehran contends that its military and nuclear program is of defensive and peaceful component.
