One of the four injured Palestinian militants died on Wednesday evening after he was critically injured during Tuesday's Israeli airstrike on southern Gaza Strip, medics said.

According to witnesses, an Israeli drone on Tuesday evening fired a rocket on a group of militants that was monitoring the security fence separating between Israel and Khan Younis in southern Gaza Strip, killing one and wounding four.

Medics at Nasser hospital in the town said one of the four injured militants was in critical condition, and later died of his wounds on Wednesday evening.

The five militants are members of the pro-Hamas movement Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), said the group in a leaflet sent to reporters.

The Israeli army had recently escalated its airstrikes on the Gaza Strip following a wave of rocket attacks carried out by Gaza militant groups at Israeli communities in the vicinity of the Hamas-ruled enclave.

Earlier on Wednesday, an Israeli army spokesman confirmed that its air forces carried out an air raid on a group of militants who were trying to fire rockets from southern Gaza Strip at Israel.
