Four people were killed and 39 others injured in separate bombings in and around Baghdad on Thursday, an Interior Ministry source said.

One of the attacks involved two bomb explosions at a crowded vegetable market in the town of Messayab, some 60 km south of Baghdad, killing two people and wounding 28 others, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The blasts, which occurred in a quick succession, damaged many nearby shops and stalls and caused damages to the surrounding buildings, the source said.

Earlier, a local police source put the toll at one killed and 30 wounded.

Another blast took place when a booby-trapped car parked at the main parking lot in the town of Yousifiyah, some 25 km south of Baghdad, detonated during the morning rush hour, killing a civilian and wounding 10 others, the ministry source said.

The two towns are part of once restive area, dubbed Triangle of Death, which is a cluster of towns scattered north of Hilla City, the capital of Babel province, some 100 km south of Baghdad.

In Baghdad, a civilian was killed and another injured when a bomb attached to their car detonated while they were traveling on the Qanat street in eastern Baghdad, the source added.

The attacks came a day before the Muslim Eid al-Adha festival.
