Palestine Liberation Organization(PLO) on Wednesday called on the United States not to veto requests to recognize a Palestinian statehood at the United Nations.

"We call on the international community, the Quartet, the UN and the United States to support the creation of the independent Palestinian state when it is presented to the UN," said the PLO in a statement sent to the media.

The Palestinian quest to grab an international recognition of a statehood "is meant at ending the conflict in the region and enable the Palestinian people to live freely and in dignity in an independent, democratic state," the statement added.

The Palestinian leadership decided to declare a statehood in response to the Israeli refusal to stop Jewish settlement in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the two territories that "along with the Gaza Strip" would make the future statehood.

According to the PLO, diplomatic camping to lobby support for the move would start on Sunday.

"These days, the Palestinian cause faces its most dangerous phases due to the Israeli occupation's acts against the Palestinian people," the PLO said.

"The absence of an Israeli partner believe in the two-state solution caused the peace process to stumble," it added.
