An Israeli motorist was shot and wounded on Tuesday evening in a shooting attack in the Palestinian West Bank, reported local news service Ynet.

The victim was driving near a Jewish settlement when unknown assailants opened fire at his vehicle and injured his hand, said the report, adding that the driver received medical treatment after he drove to the gate of another settlement.

Securty forces rushed to the scene, cordoned off the area and launched a massive manhunt. It is still unclear whether the gunfire came from a passing vehicle or from a roadside spot, according to the report.

Several similar shooting incidents have happened in the West Bank this year. In March, two Israeli police officers were shot dead while on patrol in the West Bank.

Some 300,000 Israelis now live in over 100 settlements in the West Bank, where attacks and clashes between Israelis and Palestinians are often reported as the Palestinians strive to resist what they call "occupation" and establish their own state.
