Two Yemeni protestors were killed and four others wounded in clashes with Yemeni police in south Yemen on Monday, pan-Arab al-Arabiya TV reported.

The clashes started at a checkpoint in Lahej province, south of Yemen, when mourners gathered to attend the funeral of six men whom, they said, have been killed in clashes with Yemeni police in the past two weeks in Lahej.

At least 11 Yemeni civilians and 11 soldiers have been killed in the unrest since May in the south, which was united with the north in 1990 to form the current republic, according to a government statement.

People in the oil-rich south of Yemen argue that the north utilizes their oil wealth and discriminates against them.
