One Lebanese person was killed and four others were wounded in politically motivated families clashes in northern Lebanon on Wednesday night, local Elnashra website report Thursday.

The clashes erupted between two rival families in Bab al-Tabbaneh after quarrels on hanging pictures of politicians in the area turned into violence and shooting.

Voice of Lebanon radio confirmed the clashes, saying the pictures were belonging to politicians who are running for the upcoming elections in June.

The shootout between Awad and Miflih families was contained when the security forces cordoned the area and carried out house raids in search of suspects, according to the reports.

North Lebanon was the scene of fierce clashes last year between pro-government and opposition supporters.
