The Gaza power plant will shut down on Sunday morning after consuming limited shipment of fuel that Israel allowed into Gaza two days ago, Palestinian official said on Saturday.
"The plant will close by early Sunday as the last amount of diesel ran out," said Jamal al-Derdasawi, an official at the station.
Israel allowed four reduced shipments of fuel to enter Gaza Thursday after it sealed off the cargo crossing point early last month due to a violence flare-up.
The delivered industrial diesel was 400 liters while the plant needs nearly 2 million liters every week, the official added.
He called on human rights organizations to pressure Israel allowing diesel entering Gaza for the only power plant in the Gaza Strip as the Muslim residents prepare to celebrate the Greater Bairam feast on Monday.
The station produces 25 percent of power in Gaza while Israel supplies the strip directly with most of the remaining electricity. However, overload damaged some of the networks that come from Israel, widening the power shortage. Source: Xinhua
