A U.S. soldier was killed and three others wounded in an explosion in northeast of Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Saturday.
The soldier, assigned to Multi-National Division - North, died of wounds sustained from the explosion while the victim's unit was conducting combat operations in the volatile province of Diyala on Friday, a military statement said.
The three wounded soldiers were transported to a U.S. combat hospital, it said.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of relatives, the statement added.
The latest death brings the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq to about 3,860 since the outbreak of the war in 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
