The Danish prime minister expressed sympathy and solidarity for Norway over Friday's massive bomb blast in Oslo, and conveyed Denmark's readiness to assist in handling the situation.

"On behalf of Denmark and the Danish government I express my deepest condolences, sympathy and solidarity with the Norwegian people and the Norwegian government in this difficult time," said Lars Loekke Rasmussen late Friday in a press statement.

A powerful bomb blast rocked central Oslo on Friday afternoon, in an area near the office of Norway's prime minister and oil ministry. At least seven were killed.

The Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg was not hurt in the incident.

The blast was followed by a shooting at a small island west of Oslo, which killed at least 10 people.

Speaking to Denmark's public broadcaster, DR News, Rasmussen said he was "shaken" at hearing about these developments, and that Danish authorities are in contact with their Norwegian counterparts and are following the situation closely.
