The hearing on the Murdochs over phone hacking at a select committee of British Parliament was resumed after suspending for around five minutes due to a sudden disturbance by a man.

Sky News identified the man as comedian Jonnie Marbles, who attempted to attack Rupert Murdoch with some "white substance" when the Murdochs had been questioned for about two hours and a half.

The hearing resumed only minutes after Rupert Murdoch took off his suit pelted with the white substance.

Rupert Murdoch and his son James Murdoch, chairman of News International, were attending the hearing held by the culture, media and sport committee of British Parliament.

The Murdochs initially refused to appear before the committee but changed their minds after they were issued with a summons to attend.
